SEPTEMBER 2011 - Pt. 2

Mr. Joey Vera mixed and mastered the new Oceans of Night CD, DOMAIN, and while it's currently being replicated, I'd like to take the time out to post a little blurb in our appreciation for the rather fine job he did at the control desk:

In addition to being an incredible musician, Joey is an amazing producer/studio engineer with a great ear for musical dynamics and balanced soundscapes. He just finished mixing, engineering and mastering our new CD, Domain (the CD) by Oceans of Night (the band), and I have nothing but ultimate praise to heap upon his laid-back, chillaxin' soul. Joey is incredibly easy to work with and knows what the music requires with a minimal amount of direction and a maximum amount of awesome. Under any circumstances, he gets the highest recommendation from me. Whether he likes it or not, haha, we'll be back another time for his studio wizardry, in the not-so-distant future. Thanks again my new musical best friend! :-)

SEPTEMBER 2011 - Pt. 1

The official OFFICIAL press release:

Domain is the second CD release from progressive metal band, Oceans of Night. Mixed, engineered and mastered by Joey Vera (Fates Warning, Armored Saint, Engine) Domain features a refined focus on the staples of the Oceans of Night sound: soaring vocal melodies, evocative guitar solos, sophisticated rhythm structures, and dynamic song arrangements wrapped in a tapestry of percolating ambience. Epic and cutting edge, this is music that makes a bold and powerful statement.

Track Listing for Domain (Fall 2011) is as follows:
1. Domain: 17:39
2. Don't Look to Me: 5:10
3. So Near Yet So Far: 5:28
4. Dreams in Artificial Sunlight: 3:32
5. Divisions of Time: 5:17
6. Seven Days of Rain: 6:12
7. The View to You: 8:28
8. Instruments of Fear: 4:14
9. The Future Remembered: 4:20
10. Ghosts of the Past: 4:25

Rising from the ashes of the eponymous solo band lead by musical mastermind Scott Mosher, from 1996 through 2004, Oceans of Night also features vocal powerhouse Scott Oliva, and the drum mastery of the mysterious Alan Smithee. Oceans of Night released their crushing debut CD, The Shadowheart Mirror, in 2009.

Through the course of 6 CD's, multi-instrumentalist Scott Mosher has bridged the worlds of progressive metal, melodic hard rock and ambient sounds to create an experimental yet complimentary style of music that is at once as subtle as it is powerful, aggressive as it is dynamic and timeless as it is modern. Scott Oliva continues to perform in legendary NY Iron Maiden tribute band, Live After Death and The Nightmare Stage. He has also written, performed and recorded with Wind Wraith and Inner Strength. The Scott's had first worked together on Mr. Mosher's 4th CD release, Deep Horizon, in 2006.

SPRING 2011

The 2nd Oceans of Night CD - Domain - is now in the more than capable hands of Mr. Joey Vera, for mixing, engineering and studio magic. Prepare to be stunned and amazed. More (and more frequent) updates to come, but you can rest assured this next EPIC CD will be released late summer/early fall of 2011.

WINTER 2011

Howdy folks! Lots happening here, luckily all of it is musical, and most of it is legal. Anyhow, to chase to the cut, here's what we have:

13 new songs, 90+ minutes of aural euphoria and sonic bliss. The tracks run the gamut from pure ambient songscapes through epic prog suites to instrumental madness to crushing modern metal... and everything in between. Not sure which tracks are going to make the first cut as of yet, but here's a current listing of songs that are complete:

Domain, Don't Look to Me, Seven Days of Rain, So Near So Far Away, The View to You, Future Remembered, Ghosts of the Past, Critical Mass, The Burning Skies.

Combine the musical experimentation of the VIRTUALITY CD with the modern metal crunch of THE SHADOWHEART MIRROR and toss in everything AND the kitchen sink, and there you have it - something unexplainable until you hear it, but still familiar enough that you won't find yourself on some distant island. Believe me when I say that many musical bridges are crossed, but the elements that make Oceans of Night, well, Oceans of Night, are all present: spacey atmospheres, soaring and powerful vocals, fiery melodic guitar solos, shifting time changes and pounding rhythms, pulsating bass, and, of course, a modern in-your-face 7-string guitar punch.

More to come in the not-so-distant future, so don't fret (pun intended), something musical this way comes...
